800m boardwalk constructed along the northern foreshore of Manukau Harbour
Piles concreted directly into solid rock
Staging allowed construction to continue at all tides
Heavy bracing of the superstructure permitted use of the tall slender piles
Balustrade panel infills following along behind decking installation
The boardwalk wound its way sinuously around the foreshore

This section of the Manukau Harbour boardwalk runs from Taumanu Reserve through to a path running from the ends of Rendcomb and Bamfield Places, Hillsborough.    The boardwalk, some 800 metres long, has an observation platform and stairs down to the foreshore.

The boardwalk is designed to flow around the coastline and has many curves adding to its interesting feel and appearance.

It is all timber construction with the timber piles bored and concreted into the sandstone foreshore rock.    The boardwalk has an average height of 2500mm; requiring a light weight "working at height" platform to allow work to proceed at all states of the tide.

We placed great emphasis on not damaging the foreshore and environmental realm and we achieved this admirably.
